John S. Dutton was a gunmaker in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, from c. 1856 to at least 1880. The heavy target barrel is marked "J.S. DUTTON/JAFFREY N.H" and "CAST-STEEL" with a rear dovetail filler block, two more filler blocks are visable on the bottom of the barrel, curly maple stock. It is equipped with double set triggers. The buttplate and trigger gaurd are steel with German silver patch box on the right side and Eagle on the left side of buttstock. Old Lyman adjustable rear sight and contemporary windage adjustable front sight probably made by the gunsmith. Two fine cracks in front of the lock and one fine crack that is in front of the lock plate. The cracks appear to be stable and have been there for a long time. All workmanship are professionaly done. Actual rifle weight 13.15 pounds.
